How to relax during the pandemic

How to relax during the pandemic? In these uncertain times, we need self-care more than ever. When we started in self-quarantine, I am sure most of you ever thought this would go on this long. I didn’t. And now, here we are, 2020 is almost over, and we are still struggling with Covid-19. Along with these uncertain times, as the weather is getting colder, we need to fill our soul by relaxing and taking care of us.

So what can we do to take care of us more and relax during a pandemic when we can’t go out. My weekend used to be filled with museum and art gallery visits and quite frequent performance outings, but now I can’t enjoy those activities at all.

So these things what I am doing to relax during the pandemic. Some of you are already may be doing some of what I do, if so, do comment and if you do something unique that helps you to relax and like to share, please do so.

1. Facial Mask

One way to relax is by doing a facial mask. This will help our skin and spend time taking care of us, the time we don’t think about anything else and relax help. I usually do this twice a week by using Korean snail masks. There are many masks you can get, and some of them are very inexpensive. I happen to like and use this Korean brand I buy from Amazon. It’s really more than others, but it does wonders. After dinner, before ready to go to bed, I catch up on some of my emails or reading, or just laying down on the sofa and relax while I was doing a facial mask. Why not kill two birds one hand. Relax and skincare.

2. Playing video game

I know it seems silly, but playing video games can be relaxing. There are so many video games that you can download on your phone. Many of them are free. The gaming industry is huge. According to a recent report by Newzoo senior market analyst Tom Wijman, the global gaming market will generate $159.3 billion in 2020. Do you know the video game sector is immensely large? It is larger than the movie and music industry combined, and it is only growing. However, it doesn’t get the same attention as the movie and music. If you like to find out more about the gaming industry, here is the link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_in_video_games

I happened to enjoy Toon Blast and Toy Blast. Interestingly enough, when I play without thinking, I tend to lose the game. So, when I play the game, I, sometimes, pay attention and have to use my brains. Of course, games like Wordcrash is really testing our brains. It keeps our minds sharp. The key fact is that when you play the game, it’s something you do to relax and have fun. Toon Blast and Toy Blast usually comes with a set of 5, we can play, and after that, we have to wait to refill. And if you want to keep playing, you have to pay. So make sure to use your common sense to play.

3. Listening music and dance

Listening to music is another way for me to relax. Many of you are already doing this too. Just know that when you experience emotion while listening to music, your ancient reward circuits are flooding your brain with a chemical designed to make you feel good. Thus, increase our confidence and self-esteem. See, feeling good is great.

What kind of music? I usually listen to jazz or easy music or current pop music. Love Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, and Amy Winehouse. Of course, Yo-Yo Ma. I listen to a glass of wine and lay down on my sofa. It’s very relaxing. I have most of my music download on my iPhone, so I take a portable speaker anywhere I want to listen to music. Sometimes if I am in the mood, I dance away too. Who cares? Nobody sees. It is for me. For me to relax and rechargeπŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ€£.

4. Playing the cello (Or playing any musical instruments)

The other thing I do to relax is to play the cello. When I first started learning to play the cello, it was a very frustrating experience because I felt my progress was too slow. However, after I started learning again after my accident – an accident that took me three years to hold my cello again due to terrible damage done to my left arm – my feeling toward learning changed. When I realized that I started learning the cello as a hobby, as an adult, I would not be a professional player like Yo-Yo Ma or 2Cellos. Still, to enjoy the process of learning and be able to play some decent music at some point, it became a more relaxing activity. The activity involves filling my soul and make me a better person. It became more of a relaxing activity I do. No pressure, just doing something to forget all bad feelings, bad things happened the day, and it became a very much relaxing thing to do.

5. Coloring books

Coloring books are a way to relax after a hectic day, too. It seems I am always under pressure and stress. I think it comes with the nature of my work. When you have to meet people, and since I do interviews for a living, there is no way I can avoid it. When you conduct a meeting, there is tremendous energy needed to present yourself upbeat. So you can project optimism, happiness, and positive energy that makes another person relaxed and happy to share their point of view. I do have several coloring books, and whenever I feel under pressure, I do color the adult coloring books, and it helps me relax.

The only thing is for me; I don’t finish one thing I started. I use two or three coloring books simultaneously, and depending on my mood, I switch around the books and color whatever I want to color. Like when I read books, I don’t seem to finish one book at a time. I start several books and just read a little bit at a time. However, the coloring books for me is another thing I can do to relax during the pandemic. I also think the coloring books will make a good gift.

6. Netflix Time

Netflix is an American technology and media service provider founded in 1997. It’s a subscription-based service where we can watch movies or TV shows online or stream right to my smart TV, game console, PC, mobile or tablet, or more. I don’t watch TV but use this service to catch up on movies using mainly my iPad.

Of course, after Netflix became hugely successful nowadays, we can see other companies like Amazon, Apple started to stream the right service too. Recently Peacock went on IPO as well. Currently, Netflix’s stock price is over $500 per share. The great thing about Netflix, they keep adding movies, and if you are a subscriber, Netflix will send you what movies to watch based on your preference. Netflix carries international movies as well, and since I do like to watch Bollywood movies, Netflix is a great place to find those movies. Just about 2 hours of movies you enjoy and forget all about what’s happening and relax.

How to Relax During the Pandemic

In a normal circumstance, I will be doing a lot more outdoor activities that make me relax. Like, visit the ocean or beach to walk around and go to the museums and so on. However, during the pandemic where we have to be careful and avoid crowded places, and so many places are closed, there are not many outdoor activities we can participate in. So mainly, how do we relax during the pandemic? It has to come from indoor activities to chill out, and these things are what I do to relax.

So get the Korean snail masks from Amazon and try it. Any hobby you have, try to focus more to relax. Listen to music, dance away, and be free. Relaxing is important because when we relax, blood flow increases around our body, giving us more energy. It helps us to have a calmer and clear mind. It helps to keep us to stay in better health. Let me know if you are already doing any of the above relaxing activities I mention and how that works out for you.
