There is no question that I love quality brand clothes. However, I hate to pay the full retail price. Therefore, I rarely buy outfits paying full price. I always wait for special sales. However, you can rarely tell the difference for some outfits, whether it is a designer brand or cheap knockdown price, because they look equally good. I believe the black outfit can create that illusion. It is versatile, classic, and doesn’t look cheap even when you don’t pay designer prices. And it doesn’t require dry-cleaning as often as light colors. I love black outfits because they look always put together and look expensive. The first one, I am wearing Alice & Olivia’s black dress. I bought it on sales, yet it still cost me about $150. The second one, I am wearing a Free People slips over a simple blacktop. I paid for the top $12, and the slip for $28, total cost about $40.  What do you think? I know it’s a slip but who said I couldn’t wear like a dress. It’s spandex and dark in color. The below black ruffled dress I bought and paid $10. I was doing a tradeshow for my work, and there were many vendors selling items. And this is a little bit big. However, I was so into ruffles at that time; I figured I could use it so. There was no place to try on, but $10, I thought it was worth it. Don’t get me wrong. The quality of the clothes is great, but I pay what I think reasonable. Handbags and belts are different. Mainly I can carry and wear for a long, long time. And quality outfits too, but certain things. Like fantastic jackets, yes, a fantastic leather coat or pants, it’s worth paying for it. But fashionable trendy clothes are short-lived, that’s why I hate to spend too much. I will post my next blog about how I wear this bargain outfit. In my opinion, creating your own style is more important than paying a brand name that doesn’t work well. And knowing what works and getting the best deal possible. The reason black color works, it doesn’t really look cheap, that’s why I don’t mind buying bargain black clothes. To summarize, in the first picture, I wore a black dress with a flower pin, and in the second picture, I created the look by wearing the slip over the simple blacktop. So when you doubt, wear black. Well, at least that’s my motto. Black is classic. Black is elegant, and black is mysterious. Also, it doesn’t look cheap even you don’t pay the designer price. The other reason when you doubt wear black is that black is a power color. It shows authority. On top of that, it looks sophisticated. It can be sexy. So the question is when should you wear black? when you don’t have time to put together in the morning When you are running late in the morning, the black outfit always wins. It takes no time to put together. If you have several simple black dresses as I do, pick one, wear it with black shoes, and are ready to go. To show your personality or think it’s too dull, you can add a necklace, scarf, or flower pins. Here I am wearing a black dress, with black boots and a pearl choker. I love pearls, so I wear pearl chokers a lot. I also decorated with a pink flower pin to get some color. When you have to transform work to night out A black outfit is also an excellent choice for attending a social function after work. More likely, we don’t have time to go home to change. So wearing black, it’s easy to add either a cute handbag or colorful shoes to update our wardrobe to go out. A black outfit can highlight a fashionable bag or shoe, and that’s all matters. Here I am wearing a cut-out black leather dress that carrying a tiny red evening bag. Wear with a sweater in the office and the evening, take your sweater off, change a bag, and you are ready to go. Wear weekend casual yet not too casual outings When your weekend outings, you don’t want to look too casual, wear black pants/jeans instead of blue jeans. All black looks casual and still put together. Especially in the winter with your special hat or a bright color coat, it’s a great way to look fashionable. I am wearing all black. It’s one of my museum outings during the weekend. I am wearing a black Y’s sweater and a hat with flowers. Here I am wearing all black outfit but wearing my red coat. The red coat really pops up my black outfits, and that’s the beauty of wearing black. When you want to either showing off your fantastic hat or coat, wearing all black can accomplish that. So when you doubt, wear black outfits. Like many of you, I like to dress up well. When I look good, I feel good. When I feel good, I am more productive. However, I don’t want to spend a fortune on my outfits. There are more things I like to spend money on it. So buy classic pieces you think you will wear over and over again and buy some trendy pieces on sale or consignment store. Use what you have and add a few pieces to make it new. In spite of bright colors such as red, yellow, blue, and orange which are this year’s fashion trendy colors, I still wear black outfits more than ever, even hot weather. In fact, all year round. Black is sleek, as well as very versatile. It can combine with any other colors. So when you wear black, you can have fun with different colors. However, for me, I tend to stay in the same color in a monochromatic way. When I feel wearing all black needs a little bit of uplifting, I can always use colorful accessories. I posted about accessories one of my earlier posts. I love pearls and flower pins so I tend to use lots of pearls or pink flowers with my black outfits. One great way to accessorize is with a pair of super fancy shoes. I can also mix and match in many ways. I can create a professional look, casual look, or create the fancy look with hair updo even casually dressed.
